Work with the tourism industry, relevant agencies, tourism affected communities and the public, to develop a national strategy for sustainable tourism Direct the Tourism Board to spend a proportion of its promotional budget on encouraging domestic tourism Work with industry, community and other stakeholders to develop a promotional campaign to encourage people to 'get out into the great outdoors,' in order to promote good health, domestic tourism and appreciation of nature Ensure that the Department of Conservation receives adequate funding for visitor services through Vote Tourism
[Will] take the necessary short-term steps to secure the stability of the banking system, and reduce the impact of the international credit crunch on the tourism sector so it is strongly placed to achieve growth as markets improve [Will] require the primary government agencies – Tourism NZ, MFAT and NZTE – to adopt a ‘New Zealand Inc’ partnership approach both in New Zealand and abroad. Work with the industry to complete the implementation of the NZ Tourism Strategy 2010 Develop effective training programs that ensures higher levels of service standards and take into account the job-rich potential of the industry is essential Promote self-regulation in the industry, where appropriate Establish a dedicated tourism research and development fund with an emphasis on added value and new venture criteria, beyond the current Tourism Research Council
