More funding for drug education programmes in schools and communities Prioritise the prosecution of crimes such as violent offences ahead of personal cannabis possession Introduce a legal age limit of 18 years for personal cannabis use; ensure it remains an offence to drive while under the influence of cannabis Extend the approach of the Youth Drug Court (which has cut re-offending by addressing substance addiction rather than simply punishing) to other areas of the justice system
Aggressively target "P" and other dangerous drugs through co-ordinated education and police programmes aimed at reducing both access to and the appeal of these types of drugs Oppose all efforts to legalise cannabis and any other form of illicit drugs Raise the drinking age Trial roadside drug testing using technology currently available overseas
Focus resources to deal with the most socially harmful drugs as identified through scientific research and the assessments of justice, education and health experts Oppose the decriminalisation of cannabis for recreational use Remove being under the influence of drugs or alcohol while committing a crime as a mitigating factor in sentencing Make drug and alcohol rehabilitation courses compulsory for inmates who have been identified with drug or alcohol addictions
