This will be an opportunity to remember and honour the sacrifices that have been made by New Zealand veterans Offer a formal apology acknowledging that Vietnam veterans were exposed to a toxic environment in Vietnam Ensure that the War Disablement Pension cover and entitlement to burial in a Services Cemetery is updated by extending coverage to new operational deployments at the time the deployments are mounted Facilitate the transfer of veterans who are eligible from New Zealand Superannuation to the Veteran's Pension Ensure that a veterans’ perspective is maintained in military commemorations
Introduce a Veterans’ Gold Card to provide such benefits as priority access to hospital treatment and Housing NZ accommodation Establish a Veterans’ Advisory Board to provide independent advice to the Minister on issues of concern to the veteran community Carry out a full review of Veterans’ Affairs New Zealand (VANZ) to see if it is appropriate to resource it as a ‘one stop shop’ for the provision of services to veterans Revamp and simplify the system of veterans’ pensions Examine and redress cases where there has been no medallic recognition for service
